IndustrialnatioN
While listening to Holy Uncontrollio!!!, I began to wonder why Floating Fish Studios isn't a more
prominent name in industrial music. When most people think about industrial music labels they tend
to think of Metropolis or even Cleopatra, but not necessarily Floating Fish. Let me tell you fellow
readers that this label puts out some real quality CDs. Obomatic is just one example of their stable
of great bands. This band is formed by members of Any Questions? And led by the head honcho of Punch
Drunk, Steve O. This music is straight up classic sound industrial. Plain old drum machines and
synthesizers added with Steve O's vocals give it a great, yet very simple sound. Obomatic's sound is
nice for a change as it isn't bogged down with lots of voice distortion or samples that drive you
crazy trying to figure out where you heard them before. This is just good old stripped down to basics
industrial album, not to say that multi-tracked, more complex, industrial music heard from most bands
today is no good, but getting back to the roots of the music is always enjoyable as well.

Mouthy Magazine
I can't tell if these guys are serious or not. Lead singer Steve O delivers his lyrics with perfect
alternatortured melodrama even when he's singing lines like "One life combo to go / I think I wanna
supersize it." And while the vocals would fit in well with a metal band, there are no guitars or
drums, just synthesizers, synthesizers, and more synthesizers (oh, and a drum machine). And while
those synthesizers sometimes play metalish riffs, they're just as likely to imitate 80s synthpop,
house (on a song called "The Move," how creative), or even an industrialized version of 80s Kraftwerk.
Even more surprising is "Buggabomb," with vocals that rest somewhere between rap and No Wave, atonal
synth parts, brief moments of acoustic guitar strumming and distorted vocal samples. Even the band's
more conventional material features very complex and claustrophobic arrangements, all mixed loud and
dense so that the album just NEVER FUCKING LETS UP. Agh, crushing my skull.

Obomatic is the collaborative effort of dark-industrial act Any Questions? and robo-core act Punch
Drunk. The result is the bouncy, campy, live and on-the-fly sounding "Holy Uncontrollio!!!".
"Anitdote" starts the CD off with its hi-energy ebm-meets-Devo sound, tempered with a slinky bassline.
Track 3, "One Life Combo" could be a classic dance cut with its sexy beat, phat bassline and a guitar
accompanying that sounds like a circular saw at times.
"Holy Uncontrollio!!!" runs the gamut with slow and upbeat tracks, moody and urgent, retro and
futuristic. The track "Buggabomb" certainly puts the fun back into funky. And that's what I think we
are hearing on this CD: these guys are having fun! Much of the CD sounds like it was recorded live,
like these guys are just jamming in the studio.
If you have a chance to see these guy's live, do it. Two cyber-geeks nodding-out over their K5000's,
Timmotronic providing beats, and Steve O beckoning the audience with his power-glove while belting out
an Obomatic anthem is certainly something you don't see everyday.

City Paper
Obomatic is one of just a handful of bands keeping the Philly industrial scene alive today. The band
features members of local heroes Any Questions?, fused with the aggressive ranting and raving of the
aformentioned Steve O. Holy Uncontrollio!!! is a 10 track joy ride through a dark and deadly mind-fuck
that leaves you feeling like a robot dangling from a virtual meathook. The synth heavy, punk-rock-ish,
techno-driving digital robocore rips through your darkened inner soul with tasteful anger and sinister
quirkiness. But at the same time, the tracks jam like pop songs - at times diving into slow, groovy
and trip-hoppin' head bobbers - with simple and irresistible melodies that are almost soothing within
this synthetic, robotic nightmare. It's a unique paradox that both goths and industrial heads can
appreciate.

Outburn
Maybe its the radiation drifting over from the Limerick Nuclear Power Plant in Pottstown PA, but
Floating Fish Studios has turned out another head scratching album of aggressive industrial music, this
time in the form of Obomatic. Almost 2 years in the making, rumors of this group consisting of members
of Any Questions? and Punch Drunk have been kicking around for sometime. This collaboration has
various elements of electronic mayhem, twisted with a quirkiness and dance element that has made it all
worth the wait. Driven by deep funky bass lines and interwoven with bouncy synths, each track is a
cascade of nightmarish electronic anarchy. It's hard to tell if Obomatic is taking itself very seriously.
Most of the tracks, despite the addition of the live guitar sound of Jason Yeagle and the street-tuff
vocal forcefulness of Steve Saputelli, sound as though they are having too much fun. Multiple
percussive layers that flirt the line between manic industrial madness and hip-hop oriented dance
pepper each track as washes of dark synthetic audio textures are circumvented by bright waves of
psychedelic melody. This is industrial dance music for the mind, and these tracks will find a tough
battle to make it onto the dance floor, even if they do sport more intelligence and style than most of
the EBM dribble that leeks out to the clubs today. Holy Uncontrollio!!! may turn out to be one of
those albums that people just dont get, and Floating Fish Studios probably wouldn't have it any other
way.

Gaze Into A Gloom
Obomatic consists of members from Any Questions! and is led by Steve O (vocalist & headman of Punch
Drunk). I can only describe this CD with one word: "Power". Fast and furious is the feeling you get.
Fresh, aggressive EBM (almost electro-punk), occasionally angry techno elements are capped by the
unmistakable voice of Mr. Steve O. The sounds are extemely refined and are of the most convincing of
the group.

Chain D.L.K.
Obomatic consists of members of Any Questions and is led by Steve O of the band Punch Drunk. Their
debut CD "Holy Uncontrollio" is full of energetic industrial dance music that will keep you prancing
in the dark. Dark synthetic melodies, funky basslines and kick-ass beats brings out the chilling
nightmarish sound made by these four men from Philadelphia. Another Floating Fish roster that's
proven electronic music can be manipulated and played in an unique way.

Side-Line
Despite having Steve O of Punch Drunk on vocals, and his voice is as catchy as ever, this Any Questions?
side project is as unoriginal as the mother project. I am feeling sorry for having to hammer these guys
all the time, but their music is just so bland and cheap sounding, it's just thoroughly unappealing. It's
partly due to the fact that I left my EBM, industrial dance phase behind a long time ago, but precisely
because of my musical past I can still discern what's progressive and what's not. This album does not
even contain a hint of novelty. This is kitschy, bubbly, spacey and utterly done, I really dislike it.
And even back then this would have sounded like a copy of a copy. I bet they do not use presets as I am
convinced these lads take their music very serious and they like to manipulate their Kawais, but it
sounds like factory sounds. Back to the drawing board with the exception of "Buggabomb". That track
is finest Punch Drunk material. Cool sounds, hip hop beat and catchy groove. More of this please.
